Opting in to Beta Software Releases

Anyone with a Nanoleaf account can opt-in to our various public beta programs for software. This allows your Nanoleaf devices to access new features and fixes available in beta branches, and helps us to gain valuable insights for firmware performance and stability ahead of a production release. Many hardware beta quests for new products make use of the public beta branch for firmware, and will also sometimes make use of public beta builds of the Nanoleaf App.

Opting in to the Firmware Public Beta

  1. Ensure you’ve created a Nanoleaf account through a Nanoleaf mobile or desktop app (and are signed in) ;
  2. In a browser, navigate to the forum and log in with your Nanoleaf account ;
  3. Click “Allow” on the Nanoleaf Developer Forum permissions request ;
  4. Click “My Account” at the top right to open the dropdown, and then click “My Devices” ;
  5. You should see a list of all devices that are synced with your Nanoleaf account. Click the “Opt Into Beta” button next to any devices you want added to the public beta program ;
  6. If beta updates are available, you should see them appear in the mobile/desktop app within 12 hours of opting in (note that updating Essentials devices is only supported on the mobile app at this time).

You can opt out at any time by clicking the “Opt out of Beta” button on the same page. After doing so, your device will be returned to the production branch and an update to the next production firmware version will become available when ready. Aside from special cases, we don’t allow devices to be downgraded to avoid scenarios in which breaking changes could cause unexpected device behaviour.
